Capsule Wardrobe List: Button Down Shirt
Back to Basics is a personal style series centered around the capsule wardrobe list. It is focused on how to wear and where to buy the most important items you need in your closet.
CAPSULE WARDROBE LIST
In each post I style one item from the capsule wardrobe list in various ways and provide recommendations on where to buy it, what to look for (especially fit, fabrication, and color), and how to care for it. In this post I discuss the button down shirt.
Oversized white cotton button down shirt.
There is no other capsule wardrobe essential you'll depend on more than this quintessential classic.
This is the epitome of a year-around wear-anywhere staple. If you've been considering a daily uniform this would be one of the easiest pieces to build your look on.
The styling possibilities are endless. I prefer an oversized tunic with wide easy-to-roll-up sleeves (pockets are a plus). I usually pair with skinny black jeans and a leather backpack or tote.
To keep my shirt bright and white I wear natural mineral deodorant to avoid yellow underarm stains. I wash in hot water with other white cottons or linens and hang dry. I don't mind a bit of wrinkle but have a steamer handy if needed.
