Capsule Wardrobe List: Silk Shirt
Back to Basics is a personal style series centered around the capsule wardrobe list. It is focused on how to wear and where to buy the most important items you need in your closet.
CAPSULE WARDROBE LIST
In each post I style one item from the capsule wardrobe list in various ways and provide recommendations on where to buy it, what to look for (especially fit, fabrication, and color), and how to care for it. In this post I discuss the silk shirt.
Relaxed fit silk button down blouse.
A subtle expression of femininity with a timeless and refined staple that can be just as easily elevated as pared down to suit the occasion.
I swap in a silk version of a cotton button down anytime I'm going out and want to feel just a bit more polished and delicate. It tends to be the default option for a low key night of dinner and drinks with my partner and/or friends or a cafe meeting when my work from home outfit just won't do.
I choose my silk shirts in basic colors and tuck them into skinny jeans then pare with cute leather flats or oxfords. Silk tends to invite mishap and can be high-maintenance so I usually only buy dark colors, try to avoid spills, and always dry-clean.
