Santorini Greece: Travel Guide & Photo Journal

Santorini is a gorgeous Greek-island in the Aegean Sea shaped by caldera (large craters formed from volcanic eruptions). It is rich in history, culture, and charming villages set to the back drop of a stunning coastline.

I recently visited Santorini for a wedding and had a wonderfully romantic time. Here's a snapshot of my favorite locations and activities on the island. Enjoy!

Stay

1864 The Sea Captain’s House —an extraordinary collection of contemporary-styled suites that sit at the top of Oia with fantastic ocean views.

Azalea Houses — traditional winemakers houses converted into lovely luxury residences that are off the tourist track.

Bellonias Villas, Cavo Tagoo, and Grace Santorini also offer gorgeous luxury accommodation.

Eat

Ammoudi Fish Tavern   an iconic seafood restaurant that overlooks the beautiful Ammoudi Bay.

Melitini — quaint tapas restaurant serving traditional Greek cuisine on a rooftop terrace.

Laokasti —fresh local and seasonal dishes offer a modern take on traditional Greek cuisine.

Pito Gyros — best traditional Greek gyros on the island; perfect for a quick snack.

Drink

Domaine Sigalas Winery — an award-winning winery with outstanding food pairings and a beautiful setting.

Santos Wines — scenic winery offering tastings & snacks plus caldera views.

Theros Wave Bar — excellent spot for day-drinking and dipping in the sea.

Catch Restaurant & Bar — gourmet cuisine, signature cocktails, and a lively night scene.

Shop

Kalderimi — linen and silk minimalist apparel shop in Oia.

Oia streets — just stroll down the little cobblestone streets of Oia and you'll find all sorts of adorable shops.

Do

Ammoudi Bay — after a late afternoon dip in the cove, this becomes the perfect spot to watch the sunset before having a meal at one of the nearby taverns.

Akrotiri — a remarkably preserved 7,000 year old archaeological site where buildings, frescoes, and other artifacts have been discovered.

Agios Georgios Beach — crystal clear waters and black sand.

Fira to Oia Hike — a historical walk that passes picturesque towns and historic chapels.

Yacht Sunset Tour — definitely book a sunset cruise around the island (with dinner and drinks).
